New York Public Library’s Digital Gallery

I’d been looking through NYPL’s Digital Gallery for class (I’m doing a magazine spread on Art Nouveau) when I found this collection of Lewis Wickes Hine’s photos. He documented child labor, Ellis Island Immigrants, working and domestic conditions in America between 1905-1938. These photos are beautiful because they are a dark part of our history.

A family of seven sons and one daughter, Ellis Island, New York (1904-1926, some printed later)
