Embroidered Inspiration

I’ve held an illustration by Melissa Avery close to my heart (and crafty thoughts) for a long while now. I like to go back to it every once in a while to stir up all those happy crafty illustraty thoughts I know I have tucked away in my brain… even if I’m not really in the mood to pick up my scissors/glue/fabric/yarn whatever. So, while I was mulling over the grey skies filtering in through my living room window last weekend I decided that enough was enough! I would need a version of her illustration somewhere that I could look at it whenever I needed a little boost during the day. So! Here it is! I’m much obliged to Melissa Avery for sharing her work with the world…

Vintage Finds

I was rooting around in a bin full of old linens this summer and came across this wonderful little cross stitch piece. I thought it was a pretty magical thought…

Hew & Sew

A brand spakin’ new blog! I wanted a space I could use to exercise my mad tutorial-writing skills. Let’s just keep this space for all that other fun stuff I mess around with day to day… shall we? Head on over to Hew & Sew and learn all about dying fabric with snow and Kool-Aid…

The Magical Onion!

WOW! All of this color is just from onion skins! I had no idea it would be as easy as boiling some onion skins down for 20 minutes and then submerging yarn in that simmering liquid for 20 minutes would produce something so pretty… it makes my brain hurt a little just thinking about all of the times I could have been dying things and didn’t because I thought it would be too difficult. Shame on me!
