Still Busy

I may be home for the holidays but I’m still doing some things. I’ve been churning out some embroidery patterns which has been fun, but also means I spend more time on the computer than usual, trying to retrace all of my scribbly little hand drawn patterns. Having these patterns means I can have things in the shop even when I’m away from homebase, like I am now.

These three guys make up the new Octopiddle embroidery pattern up in the shop only a matter of minutes ago!

And then there’s Bea the Bunny who joined the shop as a pattern yesterday. I really like this one…

And I’ve been making some little pocket bunnies. They’re about three inches tall from their bases to the tops of their round little heads and quite fun to make. They’re stuffed with wool and have some rice in their bases to give them a little bit of heft. I love stuffing the things I make with wool instead of polyfil. The wool compacts nicer and gives everything a more solid, satisfying feel. I’d love to get my hands on some lavender or other herbs to put in the next batch.

Etsy Love

Ok, since it’s the holidays I decided to ramble through my “Favorite Items” list on etsy. These are all things I love love love and want to hold/fawn over. Don’t you? And since it’s the holidays, I decided to share some of my top favorites with ya’ll. Ready? Here goes!

New Threads

I’ve been doing some small crafty things. I knit Joe a hat for Christmas and, since I couldn’t wait until that crazy holiday to give it to him I also decided to write a pattern for it and have him pose for some pictures. So, the pattern is in the etsy shop (check it out!) and the hat has been on his head ever since…

I also started a new series of tins. I’ve run out of the actual tins until after Christmas, but I’m busy making the embroideries that will go on them when they reach my sweat, busy little fingers.foxy62

Foxy Suit deery85 And a quiet Deery…

Stay tuned for these guys in the shop after the holidays.

MEGA UPDATE!

Whew! I just finished a mega shop update. I listed most of the larger things that I didn’t sell at the market yesterday. You can really tell which ones I took pictures of today… all that snow! You should check it out and see if you can hold back your excitement.

horse22Say hello to Pinta, one of the many new additions to the shop.

Crafty Business

So, as you all know I haven’t worked at Bonnieview for a while. What you might not know is that it’s crazy difficult to find a job in rural Vermont… in winter. So, here I am getting down to crafty. This weekend (Saturday) is the first Winter Farmers Market and I’m going to be vending everything I can dream up. I’ve been roosting in the apartment for the last week, my little fingers busy at the sewing machine, embroidery needle and anything else I can think of. What does that look like? This!

DSCN1090

I just discovered this thing called shank buttons. You know, those buttons that aren’t flat but have that little metal hoop in the back. I found a shop on etsy that sells kits that let you make your own fabric covered buttons. I hand embroidered all of the teal ones in the pictures but I’m not sure how well I like them. They’re fairly difficult to keep centered when you put the buttons in the mold. They’re 3/4 inch buttons. How cool is that!?

DSCN1091Look at all them buttons!

Some of the new batch of finger puppets.DSCN1083

Here are just a few of some stuffed bird ornaments. Some have loops to hang them from things and others have little alligator clips so that they can perch on whatever the feel like. There’s about 15 of these.   DSCN1065

Here are the birds again and one of the puff balls I’ve been making. The puff balls are extremely simple and fun to make. Essentially you make them the same way you would make a yarn ball (like the kind you put on the top of a knit hat) but you use wool roving instead of yarn. They’re so soft and light and fuzzy, I really like how they look. I got the idea from Wee Wonderfuls and used the technique from Kid Craft Central.

DSCN1066Here’s a new woolie man man. I really like this one….

DSCN1058

I saw an epically beautiful horse on etsy that used wooden sticks for legs and I decided to give it a try. I really really like how it turned out! It reminds me of a cave painting horse with it’s thick body and spindly legs. The head pivots around too…

DSCN1053 anna_mollie72Lastly I got a custom order on etsy! This person wanted custom portraits of she and her sister as little girls. I think they turned out rather well, no? Any Christmas requests?

Craftitude

I went to the Holiday Market at the Craftsbury Academy yesterday to sell some goods. I did a booth with Sarah who goes to Sterling and knits these great lace shawls and also . It went pretty well, we both sold some things and this was a good way to start dipping our toes into the local craft scene. We both signed up to do the Winter Market which starts December 12 and happens once a month all the way through April.DSCN1002

Here’s our booth, my things are on the right and Sarah’s are on the left. It was a little slap-dash, we got together the night before and attempted to try to set things up, but that turned out to be utter chaos so we had to do most of it during the two hours before the show started. It worked out fairly well in the end, but I think we could have sold more if we’d displayed something better. Ah well, next time!

DSCN1012

There are some familiar faces here, no?DSCN1011

Wallets are something new I’ve been working on. I really like how they feel and how easy they are to make. I even have a pattern up on etsy if you’re interested… although the pictures aren’t terribly interesting. I’ll have to work on that part.DSCN1008

El Fingero Puppetos…DSCN1004And some woolie mans! Turns out they sit really well in the beer holders that I fished out of the recycling. I wish I’d had some time to cover them up, but maybe that’s part of their charm, no?

The Woolie Gang

I’ve brainvented (get it, Brain + Invented… hah…) a new little buddy! They’re called Woolies because they’ve made from wool felt and stuffed with handwashed and carded wool from the farm I’ve been working at. I really love making them because they wind up so soft and firm that it’s hard not to snuggle up in a pile of them. They’re about 7 inches tall and I’m going to make some labels and take them over to the coop in Hardwick to see if they’ll sell them there. If they can’t then I’ll post them on etsy and let ya’ll know asap. Enjoy! Oh, and they don’t have names yet, if you want to take a stab at naming them, just comment on this post (maybe include which color you’re talking about, eh?).
